Week 3

Week 3
The workshop in the third week was really useful. I explained my idea about transforming music into colours to help deaf people to “hear” the music. I have been told that my idea was interesting and I needed to write down everything I said to explain my project. I believe for what I am doing, and if there is a potential, maybe this will be the start or at least an input for something really useful and helpful. I have anther idea to associate to the colours and it is the vibration. Would it be helpful to add a platform on which we place hands and feel the vibration of the music while at the same time we are watching the colours?

week 2

During the workshop in week 2 we had to elaborate few ideas. Looking at the briefs, I had few ideas: one is about interaction between our shadow and a rectangle of pure white light projected onto a wall (http://www.snibbe.com/scott/screen/index.html); the second idea, and maybe the one I want to do, is about transforming music into colours. Looking at this web site (http://www.we-make-money-not-art.com/archives/004535.php) about a blind student who had to read coloured maps of the upper atmosphere as part of his research, the only way to do so was to transform colours into music. So my idea was the other way around; can deaf people listen to music? Looking at piece of art created by transforming music into colours the person can interpret the music! The only problem: how can I do that?

week 1

During the lecture, Ian Grant discussed what Internet Network Art is about. He went through the different brief we have to choose from, explaining them one by one generically. He talked about the assignments and what we have to do. During the lecture with Julie Samuels we went through the module study guide much deeper and tried to elaborate few ideas for each single brief. Looking through this module I notice quite a strong similarity to the previous modules “Network aesthetic” and “Global Digital Communication”. I have to say during the second and third level I am not really learning anything else but just repeating the same things (I am quite disappointed because there are other modules with the same problem)! Anyway I will try to do my best.
